New State Report
NC students are behind due to pandemic
Many North Carolina students are months and in some cases more than a year behind where they should be academically in reading and math as a result of learning loss during the pandemic, according to a new report from the N.C. Office of Learning Recovery and Acceleration. The report out this week elaborates that elementary and middle school students ended last school year 2.25 months to 7.75 months behind how they should have been doing on state reading exams. The gap was even wider on state math exams, with students in several grade levels ending the 2020-21 school year more than one school year behind academically. The state report is the latest in a string of studies that have found that students across the nation experienced learning gaps during the pandemic. Click or tap to here to access the report.

AEOP helps best friends find STEM success
Jack, Cameron, and Colin are a research team, and three best friends, from North Carolina who have always been passionate about STEM. Since high school, they have made it their mission to find extracurricular STEM programs and volunteer activities. However, something was missing: the opportunity to participate in more hands-on STEM projects where they could apply their knowledge. Brandon Stallard, their teacher, found the solution: the Army Educational Outreach Program, or AEOP. |
