Meet the 2021-22 NC State Kenan Fellows

The Kenan Fellows Program for Teacher Leadership at N.C. State University announce this week the 26 North Carolina public school educators who have been awarded 2021–22 fellowships. This cohort of K-12 teachers from across the state were selected from a highly-qualified applicant pool of more than 60 educators following a competitive application process. The educators represent 11 counties across the state and teach a wide range of grade levels from elementary to high school. This summer, the 2021–22 Kenan Fellows will spend three weeks interning with local experts in agriculture, scientific research, high-tech manufacturing, and other STEM fields. As part of the award, Kenan Fellows receive a $5,000 stipend and participate in 80 hours of professional development. Established in 2000. the Kenan Fellows Program addresses the critical need for high-quality professional development for educators, and is the largest STEM-focused teacher fellowship in North Carolina. US DoE national summer program launches to help students impacted by pandemic

The U.S. Department of Education has launched the Summer Learning & Enrichment Collaborative, providing support to 46 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Bureau of Indian Education, and three territories working together to use more than $1.2 billion of the American Rescue Plan and other federal pandemic relief funding to support as many students as possible through enriching and educational summer programming.

NC CAP building STEM Asset Mapping Database

As the NC Center for Afterschool Programs (NC CAP) continues to develop high-quality STEM content and is creating a STEM Asset Mapping Database that will serve as a connector for individuals and entities engaged in STEM statewide. To achieve this, NC CAP is collecting information on local STEM assets across North Carolina. If you would like to showcase a STEM asset in your community, use the link below to submit a nomination.

Smithsonian Science for the Classroom

Smithsonian Science for North and South Carolina Classrooms is underway now through September 2024 in both North and South Carolina. This project will impact third, fourth, and fifth grade classrooms in about 50 schools spanning across seven districts in the two states. Black in Biophysics - #BIBPSNextGen event

Black In Biophysics is an organization/movement that aims to recognize and celebrate Black biophysicists to create a more inclusive environment in STEM fields by supporting underrepresented students in biophysics and beyond. During Black In Biophysics Week, there will be a panel discussion on May 11 from 1 to 2 p.m. with scientists of diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. Students at middle schools and high schools will have the opportunity to see the exciting experiments of Black scientists and speak to and have their questions answered by the panelists.
