New studies bolster case for PBL




Project-based learning, a popular practice that uses a lot of poster boards and student presentations, is billed as an antidote to boring classrooms where teachers drone on. Advocates say hands-on projects motivate students to learn, think critically, solve problems, and work collaboratively with their peers. But, it’s an open question whether students can learn every subject this way. Four new studies are helping to fill this void. Read more.

Applications for the 2021 Student STEM Enrichment Program (SSEP) grant awards are open now through the Burroughs Wellcome Fund. Deadline is April 15.

Principals of the Year named; 8 up for state title

Eight outstanding public school principals have been selected as regional Wells Fargo North Carolina Principals of the Year and will now compete for the state title of 2021 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year, which will be announced May 21.

Nominate your 2021 Afterschool Champions 

The N.C. Center for Afterschool Programs is accepting nominations for the 2021 Afterschool Champions. Nominees should demonstrate outstanding work in developing, supporting, and promoting high-quality afterschool and out-of-school time programs to benefit youth and families statewide. Deadline to submit is March 21! Recipients will be recognized during the Synergy Conference on April 29.

X-STEM All Access Registration is Now LIVE!

X-STEM All Access – presented by AstraZeneca, DoD STEM, and the U.S. Air Force – is a free virtual conference series designed to showcase diversity and inspire students about careers STEM. Educators will have access to downloadable worksheets to incorporate X-STEM into classroom activities. Each episode will be 45-minutes long, designed to fit within a standard class period.
