NC students excel at STEM competition




The North Carolina International Science Challenge (NCISC) is a high school STEM competition that crowns a select group of talented students to represent their schools (and their nation) in the Beijing Youth Science Creation Competition every spring. While this past year posed unique challenges for these students and, while the event was held virtually instead of in China, these students were not hindered by their limitations. Rather, they rose to the challenge of researching and collaborating from afar. Take a minute to meet some of these terrific young minds on their road to NCISC success! Read the full story.

Applications for the 2021 Student STEM Enrichment Program (SSEP) grant awards are now open through the Burroughs Wellcome Fund. Electronic applications will be accepted no later than 4 p.m. EDT on April 15, 2021.

Genes in Space innovation challenge

Genes in Space, an annual competition that challenges students to solve sweeping problems faced by space travelers, will begin accepting submissions for the 2021 competition on Jan. 19. Each year, the contest invites students in grades 7-12 to design pioneering DNA experiments for the International Space Station (ISS), where one winning experiment is carried out by astronauts.

NC back in Top 10 in Afterschool Alliance study

Since 2009, there has been a ranking of the top 10 states for afterschool to complement findings from the America After 3PM survey, which examines how children spend the hours from when schools let out to when parents typically return home from work.
