The National Assessment of Educational Progress released the 2015 report card for students, showing fourth grade students above the national math average and eighth grade students not varying significantly from the national score.

N.C. fourth grade students scored 244 on the math section, which is four points higher than the national 240 average. This shows a 14-point increase since 2000. Additionally, 44 percent of students scored above the NAEP proficient level. Eighty-five percent scored above the basic level.

Both the N.C. eighth grade math scores and the national scores were 281 in math. This was five points lower from the national level in 2013, but was higher than the 2000 score. Thirty-three percent of students scored above the proficient level, and 69 percent scored above the basic level.
